Day 26: Stick with your values, always
The wedding is over which meant that my daughters, Emily and Abby, had to leave today. Emily back to Denver and Abby back to Houston (it was nice for Abby that Matt, one of the groomsmen, is from Houston, also, so she had a travel companion). It was not fun to say good-bye. We had a blast together while they were here and the time went WAY too fast.
But, on the other hand I am so proud that they have made their own way in large cities and are doing so well. And, they are really great young women!
I’ve been thinking a lot with all the kids home over the wedding weekend and as I see Chris starting a new life with his wife about what it takes to raise children to be happy, responsible adults. It takes a lot! As I look back I wish I knew then what I know now – but, unfortunately, I didn’t. What I did know during their childhood and young adult years is that God is #1, our family #2, and then everything else. I know that I was at my best when I kept those priorities in order. I’d like to say that I was a great mom all the time but that is definitely not the case. Thank goodness that we have forgiveness.
I think the key to anything – a successful business, a happy family, a great husband/wife relationship is #1 knowing what our values are, and #2 sticking to them. Always.
