Self-Care Sanity: Idea #6 – The Gift of Not Thinking About Calories

6-gift-of-no-caloriesYes, I know we’re all watching our calories and cutting back on what is not good for us.  This is key to living a healthy lifestyle. That’s fantastic!

A big piece of self-care is taking care of our body.  But, I want you to know that once in awhile it is absolutely ok to splurge with a really yummy dessert and enjoy every single bite.

Yes, every single bite! My favorite splurge is Haagen-Daaz ice cream. Addi’s is frosted Valentine cookies!

Self-Care Sanity: Idea #5 – The GIft of Rest

5-take-a-nap-Many of us have a tendency to fill our lives up to the brim. Sometimes it works; sometimes it doesn’t. Most of the time it leaves us stressed and really, really tired.

The National Sleep Foundation suggests adults get 7-9 hours of sleep. How much sleep are you getting?  It may be time to take this seriously.

But, what about during the day?  Is a nap a good thing? I don’t think it is if you are using it to avoid a project you’ve been putting off. When you feel overwhelmed you may tell yourself “I am so tired. I’ll just take a quick nap and then tackle this task.”  A nap just prolongs getting the task done. You may tell yourself you’re tired when really you don’t know the next step to take.

But, if you really feel a break of around 20-30 minutes for a nap would improve your mood, alertness, and productivity – go for it! I would suggest using a timer or it may turn into an all afternoon siesta!

Self-Care Sanity: Idea #1 – The Gift of Acknowledgement

1-amazing-things-og-mandinoDo you realize how amazing you are?  Do your really? Right now write down 10 amazing things about yourself. This is not the time to be shy.

Then every morning before you start your day read this list.  You will sit up taller, be more confident, and have a much better day!

If you struggle with this please read The Greatest Miracle in the World by Og Mandino. Because this is what you are – the greatest miracle in the world.

2015 Success Now: Action Step #13 – Strengthen Your Fear

kosama-toolsEvery morning at 6:10 am I attend what I consider to be a loving but kick-in-the-backside gym called Kosama.  The classes are instructor led and they have various tools they use to work us out for the grueling 50 minutes.

Without the tools or instructors nothing would happen.  No changes would be made in my life.

There are many tools you need to run a successful business.  I’m covering some of them in these 2015 Success Action Steps.

But, the most important tool you need you can’t see.  It’s your mindset.  What are you doing to strengthen your belief in yourself and what you offer to others?

It starts with facing the big bad monster of FEAR.  All those thoughts you have as you work to grow your business every day.

Thoughts like:

  • I can’t call her.  She probably doesn’t have the money to hire me.
  • Speak in front of a group?  Are you kidding?  They already know all I have to say.
  • I guess I won’t go to that networking event after all.   I don’t know who I would talk to.
  • Giving a teleclass sounds like a great idea.  But, how would I even go about doing it?
  • I should really be using a contact database system.  But, I’m not very good with the computer.  I’ll just keep throwing business cards I get in the drawer.
  • There’s no need to go out and meet prospects face to face. I’ll just spend a lot of time posting on Facebook and Twitter.
  • And so on….and so on….

I recently saw a video with Christie Love, of LeadHer.org called “Overcoming Your Fears” and she gave a great acronym for FEAR:

Forming

Excuses

Accepting

Restraints

So true.

What if you would stop accepting the excuses your fears give you?  What if you would face the imagined fears in your mind and do it anyway?  What would happen?

2015 Success Now: Action Step #12 – Show Your Style

I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase ‘make money in your jammies.’

I’m not a fan.  Of the jampuffy-vestmies part.  The money part is fine!

It’s so easy with a home office to be pretty relaxed with what we wear. Who is going to see us anyway?

We do.

If you do roll into your office with jammies/sweats/etc how do you feel?  Productive or kind of behind the eight ball?  When you answer the phone or make a sales call do you feel professional?

Make it a point in the morning to dress so you feel good. No need for a 3-piece suit but what do you feel good in?

One of my new pieces for this winter is my North Face silver puffy vest.  Love it and I’m warm!

2015 Success Now: Action Step #11 – Sort, Test, and Toss

pens-containedDo you ever pick up a pen from your desk, try to use it, and it doesn’t work and you put it right back where you found it? How many times do you keep trying that pen?! The pen fairy is not going to come during the night and fix your pens!

Get a basket and collect all the pens, markers, pencils, Sharpies, etc from on top of your desk, in the drawers, tucked behind the monitor, and on the floor.

Sort by type and try each and every instrument. Toss/recycle the ones that don’t work.

Get cute containers to hold your ‘good’ pens, etc.

This may seem like a little thing to do but it’s a huge start to getting rid of what does not work in your life. Who knows what you will sort, test and toss next!

I have nothing against Facebook, Twitter, texting, etc. Well, maybe I do!

We are losing personal connection. We are not hearing a voice. We are not hearing tones. We are not seeing a person’s handwriting.

We are losing out.
