As entrepreneurs there are so many factors that play into our success such as: Belief, courage, faith, focus…the list could go on and on.
But a big one is trust. When you trust your expertise, when you trust you are doing what you were put on this earth to do, when you trust you are doing the right activities to get in front of your right-fit clients, etc. amazing things happen.
But, how can you make trust a way of life?
I closed my SuccessPlus 2014 women’s business retreat by sharing with the ladies my 5 Step System to TRUST. This has not only changed my life land business but theirs as well.
Treasure yourself by taking care of yourself. We all say this – but are you doing it?
Recognize past accomplishments. Not just remember them but recognize them. Give yourself pats on the back for all you have done.
Utilize all the tools in your business development tool kit. Are you getting out in front of your right-fit clients? Are you tracking your money? Are you working out of an organized office? Do you have devotional/quiet time?
You an amazing person but please top trying to be all things to all people. There is a sliver of the marketplace that you are meant to lead! Who are they? Is all of your marketing copy and efforts directed to that sliver?
Are you tracking your exercise? Your sales conversations? What you want to book each month and your activities to make that happen?
When all of these are in place you will be unstoppable!

Every time I have a computer issue I praise God for David. He has been in my life for over 13 years and I’ve told him many times he must never retire. I’m not kidding!
He and his team can help me remotely or many times David makes a house call.
He is customer service to the ultimate degree.
He is the only person I think of when my computer is causing me conniptions.
Are you the only person your prospects think of when they need your expertise?
Are you specializing in one thing? If so, marketing becomes a whole lot easier. If not, is it time to pick your specialty and be the person ‘they are gonna call’?
Whenever I see a ‘dead end’ sign I always go a bit further to see if it is telling me the truth! It always is.
Too bad there aren’t ‘dead end’ signs that pop up in our life.
A dead end is when:
- Your thoughts tell you that you are not capable
- You pick up the phone to call a prospect and you tell yourself “she probably is too busy” or “she won’t need me” so you hand up the phone
- You feel others know more than you so why would a group want to hear you speak
- You are afraid to invest in your business
- You back down when your opinion should be heard
- You decide to start a monthly newsletter or weekly blog posts and then tell yourself your articles and posts are not good enough.
These are all dead ends and get you nowhere. You don’t want to go there.
The next time a dead end thought enters your mind walk away. Get on a new path.
Bruce and I were taking a walk on the bike trail in Okoboji, IA while on vacation. I like to think I’m in pretty good shape but after about a 2-mile walk I was ready to sit by the beach!
During our walk we saw people golfing on a beautiful course. We came around a turn a saw a sign for the Okoboji View Golf Course that invited walkers and cyclists to enjoy their restaurant.
It would never have occurred to me to visit the restaurant. I would have assumed it was a private course and the restaurant would just be for members.
So often in business we make assumptions about our clients. In fact, there are two deadly assumptions we as business owners often make:
#1: When someone pays us for a service we assume they know everything else we offer.
#2: When someone pays us for a service we assume when they need us again they will contact us.
I commend the manager of the Okoboji View Golf Course for not assuming the walkers and cyclists would know the restaurant was open to everyone.
Do your clients know all the different ways you can serve them?
Do your clients know you want to keep doing business with them?
If not, it’s time to do a better job of staying in touch with your prospects and clients.
When we assume we lose business.
I opened my mailbox, took the mail out, and smiled. I received a letter from one of my amazing coaching clients and she called me ‘Coach Extraordinaire’!
I stood taller. My confidence soared. I felt fantastic.
Sometimes it is all in a name.
What are you calling yourself today?
Years ago I really, I mean really, thought Oprah was going to discover me and all would be well. I would be on her show, sell millions of my books, and have clients lined up for miles to work with me. I even found a picture of Oprah and inserted my picture as her guest!
I would market my business, but half heartedly, because Oprah was my ticket for the future.
One day my business coach said to me “Elizabeth, you will never be discovered by Oprah.” Ouch! But, he was right. Okay, there is always a slight chance it could happen but by counting on this one-in-a-million chance I was limiting my business.
I decided that day that it was up to me to become a success story.
My friend, Chuck Inman, gave me this quote by Brian Tracy – The starting point of maturity is the realization that no one is coming to the rescue. Everything you are and everything you will be is entirely up to you.
It truly is up to you. If you are waiting for anyone to save you – it may be a long wait. What can you do today to take a step toward your success?
