First things first
In April I attended the NAPO (National Association of Professional Organizers) national conference in New Orleans, LA. I had a great time and it was fun to see New Orleans for the first time. I also had the privilege of presenting my "30 Ideas for Business Success" in a breakout session. This is all good except...
At 4:30 pm on Friday I started my presentation and 20 minutes into the speech the alarms started blaring all over the hotel. I stopped talking in shock! This has never happened to me before.
I don't like to admit this but my first thought was to stay put. Fortunately, others knew in the room knew better and we all left and took the stairs and exited the hotel. The sidewalks were full of people from the hotel and we found out there was a bomb threat at the hotel across the street which is why we were evacuated. The strange thing was we were all standing right across from the 'hotel in danger' which didn't make much sense to us.
My immediate thought when I got outside was to call my husband, Bruce. I didn't have to give it a second thought who to check in with first. Not once did it enter my mind to contact anyone associated with my business.
Who is first on your speed dial?
I know as a solo entrepreneur how easy it is to get focused on my business and my clients. But, as much as we love our business, our clients, and the opportunities we have to grow our business let's always remember first things first!
Chances are your 'first things' are the special people on your speed dial! Why don't you call one now?
