Fly the friendly skies...or not.



Recently I was on 10 flights in 12 days.  I love to travel!

What I don't like is the uninterest (for lack of a better word) of the airplane personnel.  It seems they just don't care - particularly the flight attendants.

Until these last 10 flights.

I only fly Delta so I can stay in their elite status program which often upgrades me to 1st class.  That truly is the best way to travel!

Something must have happened with Delta and I'm thinking they have 'supersized' their customer service.  Everything was different. At one airport I was sitting at the gate and the pilot (yes, the real pilot) got on the intercom, raised his right hand and said "Who wants to go to Atlanta?"  Well, that was where my gate said I was going and that's where I wanted to go so I raised my hand!  It was so funny.  He then went on to welcome us and told us about the weather in Atlanta.

On the other flights the pilots came out of the cockpit to introduce themselves and tell us a little bit about the flight and then the stewardess came on to do the safety announcements and actually told some jokes.  I had been upgraded to 1st class when this first happened and all of us were turning around and looking at each other like "What has happened?  Are we really on Delta?!"

It's a sad state of affairs when we get good customer service and we are amazed. Shouldn't we always get great customer service?

How about in your business? How would your clients and prospects rate your customer service?  Are they surprised when you go above and beyond or do they expect wonderful service from you?

How can you supersize your service?
  • Never take a client for granted. Do you tell them thank you? A lot?
  • Do you always give 150%? At least?
  • Are you sending hand-written cards?
  • Do you call them once in awhile - not to sell - just to truly find out how they are doing?
  • How about a nice gift once a year?
  • I drove through Burger King drive through recently for my son and he wasn't sure what he wanted so I told the gal at the menu sign that I needed a minute.  She responded with a lilt to her voice and said, "Take all the time you need!" I about fell out of my car.  Do your clients feel rushed with you or do they feel that they can 'take all the time they need'?
  • If you mail products can you add a 'fun' item to the package with the order?
Elizabeth's Assignments:
  1. Make a decision today that you are going to knock the socks off your prospects and clients with fantastic customer service.
  2. Take action and do one thing in the next 2 days to pleasantly surprise your clients.
  3. Stay focused and don't drop the ball after a few months.  Great customer service is a life-long practice.
