How is your New Year going?!

I had a blast recently speaking to a MOPS group in Clara City, MN.  I love speaking to busy women (and who is busier than a mom of a preschooler?!).

I have started living with the idea of the 'floating calendar'.  This means that the first day of every month is Happy New year to me! For example: On February 1, 2010 I will look at January of 2010 to see how I've done and then look at February 1, 2009 to January 31, 2010 to look at my 'past' year.  This way I am always at the top of my game and never thinking that I have to wait until the 'new year' to get started again.  This really works! 

So happy, happy New Year for February 1!
My goal this year with my newsletter this year is to give you the confidence you may need to accomplish what you desire in the next 12 months.  I have a 12-module system for confidence and every month I'll be giving you one of the modules, an action step to take for gaining confidence, and an organizing tip to do each month.

I wrote my book "Organize with Confidence" almost 4 years ago based on what I've learned over the past 25+ years on living an organized life and living confidently.  Because, let me tell you, I was not born either organized or confident!

In my book I explain my blueprint to confidence which consists of 12 modules - which is perfect since I can now give you one module a month in 2010!

The 12 modules are:
  • Continue to learn (read the January 2010 newsletter article here)
  • Only you can change anything
  • Notice your surroundings
  • Face the fear and do it anyway
  • Imagine the best
  • Dare to have big goals
  • Establish systems
  • Never give up
  • Compare yourself only to yourself
  • Enjoy life!
Confidence Module #2:  Only You Can Change Anything
I think one of the biggest epidemics we have is the 'blame game'.  Have you noticed this?  Nothing is anyone's responsibility.

Do you play the blame game?  If you do your life will stay exactly as it is right now.  When we blame we put the power of change in the person (or event) that we are blaming. 

Think about this for a minute.  If you're blaming Mary for something and she doesn't know that you think she did anything wrong nothing will change.  If Mary knows that you are blaming her and doesn't care nothing will change.  If Mary knows that you are blaming her, realizes it's her fault, but decides not to do anything about it nothing will change.

Are you seeing a pattern?!

I don't like to have it be someone else's responsibility for change in my life. I want to be in charge of my own life and not wait for others.  How about you?

The minute you start to blame someone stop and say to yourself "If it's going to be it's up to me."  (This is actually a title from a book by Dr. Robert Schuller.  Excellent book by the way!)  When you say that statement your brain will start to work on finding ways that YOU can do something about the issue.  This means that YOU are responsible and will do something about it. You don't have to wait for anyone else.  It's a beautiful thing! Your life is up to you!

What can you do in February to change?

  • Make a list of who/what you are blaming and write an action step by each item of something that you can do
  • Turn off the TV
  • Exercise
  • Choose healthy food
  • Think before you react
  • What do YOU want to do?!!
February Confidence Action Step:
Decide that today is the first day of the rest of your life and your are going to have an awesome life!  Your life is up to you.
