I’ll take over now

My birthday was a few weeks ago and Bruce and I took the family (minus our girls who need to move back to Sioux Falls!), plus his parents, out for dinner.

About halfway through the dinner I noticed a lady at a nearby table get up and she was choking. Her husband was patting her on the back, which was getting them nowhere, and then he tried to do the Heimlich Maneuver. It wasn’t going well.

Bruce’s back was to this couple so he didn’t see what was going on. When I realized what was happening I started shouting to Bruce, and even though he had no ideas why I was shouting “Get up, get up!”, he shot out of his seat and I pointed to the couple. Bruce saw the situation, walked quickly over, said something to the man, performed the Heimlich perfectly, and whatever the woman was choking on popped out of her mouth.

Bruce came back to the table and continued eating. The whole thing just took a few seconds and Bruce was so calm I wondered, ” Did this really happen?”

The next day I asked him if he felt panicked when he saw the woman choking.

“No.”

“Did you worry if you could help her?”

“No.”

“What did you say to the husband?”

“I’ll take over now.”

Seriously. Isn’t this the kind of man you want in an emergency? I sure do!

I’ll take over now.

We need to have people in our life that can take over AND we need to know when to let them take over. That can be hard and our pride can get in the way.

That husband didn’t know who Bruce was, he didn’t know Bruce was trained for a situation just like this, and he could have kept trying to help his wife which would not have been a good outcome.

What do you need help with? What do you need to turn over to someone else who does it better and will give you a more successful outcome?

Is it time to lose the pride and gain success? If not now, when?!

Are you ready? I’m waiting here ready to take over!

It may be time to take stock of your life and career. If things aren’t going so well – or everything stays the same and you find life lacking some luster –  is it time for a new way to look and do things?

Where ya headed?

Last week I was on my way to visit my mom. I have a specific route I take and I have driven it so many times I truly believe my car could do it by itself.

There are two small towns I go through, and while I slow down, I don’t pay attention to the speed limit. I always wonder – Do they even have a city police person?!

As I was almost out of one small town I realized if I didn’t hurry up and pass the incredibly slow car in front of me, and then get around the semi ahead, I’d have to follow the semi for miles. When you leave this town there are long stretches of no-passing zones.

So, without a care in the world, I passed that incredibly small car and as I was zipping around the semi I saw a police care chilling in a parking lot.

What? The town has a police car?

As I watched in my side mirror I saw him pull out, put on his flashers, and started following me.
Surely, he doesn’t want me!

He did. I pulled over in a safe area and got my license, insurance, etc. ready to go.  When he got to the window he said, “Ma’am, do you know why I pulled you over?” I said very contritely, “I was speeding.”

:”Yes, you were going 47 mph in a 30-mph zone.” What,” I asked incredulously, “that is just terrible.” He agreed.

Then he asked a question that changed everything. “Where ya headed.” I kind of felt like I was in the movie Fargo. Without even a thought I said, “To visit my mom in the nursing home in Orange City. She’s in hospice.” Whenever I say the word ‘hospice’ to someone I don’t know I get emotional. Which I did that day. But, I know where she is headed so she and I are both good!

He took my documentation back to his car and I waited. And, I waited. It’s quite interesting. I didn’t feel scared about a ticket. I didn’t feel any anxiety. I felt such peace that whatever was meant to happen would happen.

He came back, handed my items back to me and said, “Because of the circumstances, I’m going to let you go. But, just so you know, that would have been a $250 ticket.”

“Thank you, thank you,” I replied, “I do feel terrible about going so fast in your town. I am so sorry.”

“You go have a good visit”, he replied.

You need to understand. This police officer couldn’t have been more than 20 years old. Seriously. Most likely, he has not gone through having a loved one in hospice, at least not a parent.

But, he let me go because of where I was headed.

Where ya headed? Really, where? In your life, in your career or business, with your family, your faith, etc.

We don’t always get a break, like I did that day, when we hurry or take the wrong path to where we want to go.

Where ya headed?

Sometimes we have a general idea but no plan. Or, a specific goal but no plan. Or, a plan but it’s not getting us to where we want to go

I speak from personal experience. Please, oh please, take time to think where you want to go in all aspects of your life.

In my 90-day DESIRE Personal Empowerment Program our first exercise is rating your contentment in 8 areas of your life: Fun & Leisure, Home Environment, Career/Business, Money, Health, Friends & Family, Significant Other and Personal Growth.

It’s quite amazing what I can tell about you, just from this exercise, and then help you pick the top 3 most important goals for you for the next 90 days. You will be headed in the right direction!

Think of how much more excited you would be in the second half of 2017 if you were clear on your goals and clear on where you are headed.

If you want to go farther faster (with no speeding ticket!) with knowing what is essential in your life and what you dream of accomplishing then join me in my 60-day DESIRE Personal Empowerment Program.

If you desire to achieve what you want and need, let’s find out if you and I are a right fit. Find out more about the DESIRE program below and let’s start making things happen for you!

Some may call it a mess; I call it revealing my dreams

I’m organized. Plain and simple. There is neatness all around me.

Except, for right now, in my office workroom. It may look like a tornado has blown through but it’s actually creativity in action.

office-workroom-vision-board-in-progressI’ve always thought I was a proactive person but lately I realize I’ve been living reactively. Reacting to circumstances, people, and life. It’s not working.

No more. I’ve always been a goal setter but then the goals sit in a notebook or hidden somewhere in my computer.

Starting now I’m getting clear on my authentic life, letting go of what’s in the way – and then clearly connecting with my dreams while designing a vision that calls to me.

Enter the Vision Board. And, I’m having a blast designing mine even though the ‘mess’ is driving me crazy! But, that’s why they invented doors that shut.

I’ve done Vision Boards in the past and it is truly amazing when you get really clear on what you want and find images that represent those feelings what can happen.

But, just like hiding my goals in notebooks or the computer it doesn’t do any good unless our dreams our forefront every day.

On December 2, I’m going to be giving my 1st ever Create Your Life Vision Board Workshop in Sioux Falls. I can’t wait!

I made a Vision Board to represent the type of gals I want to attend. She can be of any age vision-board-attendeesbut she comes in with a smile on her face and ready to take the time to get clear on what she wants. This workshop is all about her and we will celebrate where she is and where she wants to be and then – confidence blossoms.

The gals will then place their Vision Board in their office or home and be reminded daily of their dreams and the action steps to make them happen.

A Vision Board or any other method of tracking goals is nothing without an action plan.

You may say to yourself that January is really the best time to do this work. Sorry, but no. The time is now. Why do you feel you must wait 2 months?

What is so magical about January?

If you are in the Sioux Falls area you need to come to my workshop! If you are interested just reply with ‘tell me more’.

If you are not in this area I’m working on a way to give this workshop virtually. I want to be able to see you all the virtual attendees and they see me so not sure how to make this happen.

But, I will figure it out!
If your life, work, relationships, etc. are not where you want them to be what are you going to do about it?

Maybe it’s time for you to get clear on what you want, let your creativity blossom, make a visual reminder of your dreams, and then act. If not now, when?

If people can’t see what God is doing, they stumble all over themselves; but when they attend to what he reveals, they are most blessed. Proverbs 29:18 The Message Bible

You are fabulous

Why is it (and maybe it’s just true for me but I’m betting it’s true for others) easier to repeat negative things people say about us then good things? I have no trouble telling my husband if I get an e-mail that tells me what I’m doing wrong, but I gloss over positive comments that I get.

Recently I got back from a speaking engagement and have been getting the most wonderful e-mails from the group. One person said “I’ve got to say your workshop was by far one of the most informative, entertaining, and relevant conferences I’ve attended in many years.” Wow! I beamed for a long time! I wanted to share her comment with others but them almost stopped. You see, what if you think I’m bragging by telling you this? That’s when I realized that it’s must easier to pass on negative comments than positive ones.

Why is that? For me it goes way back to childhood. I was told “don’t let that go to your head” or “don’t think too much of yourself”. I think that we should let things go to our head and we should think big of our self. If we don’t, who is?

addi-bunnyI love my granddaughter’s confidence. I am always telling her how amazing she is and she smiles confidently!

Great self-esteem and true confidence comes from within and then we can let that shine on others. I’m not talking about being obnoxious and me, me, me. I’m saying it is a good thing to think that we are awesome and to treasure when other people realize the same thing.

Quick, write down 5 fabulous things about yourself. What was your first reaction to that request? Set those thoughts aside and do it anyway. Hopefully you’ll keep going and write 100 awesome things! You are an amazing person.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?

Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

A quote by Marianne Williamson from A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of a Course in Miracles

It’s time to shine your light!

Want to take action now?! Walk into your closet feeling really, really fabulous. As you look around you’re going to see things that a fabulous person would not wear. Give these items away and feel free!

Run the mile you are in

I am finally back at run-the-mile-you-are-inthe gym. With being sick, travel, and mom’s accident it’s been way too long.

On my first day back I noticed something that has been there for a while but I never saw it.

On the Goal Wall is the phrase ‘run the mile you are in’.

I stopped. Run the mile you are in.

Immediately I thought of all the times I’ve tried to be like someone else. Tried to market my business like they did. Tried to parent like they did. Tried to give presentations like they did.

And, you know what? It never worked. Only when I am running my own mile am I congruent in every way.

I posted this on my Facebook page and a friend of mine commented that when she read it she started thinking about how many times she rehashes her own mile. Or what she did wrong or worrying about tomorrow’s mile.

Good points!

How about if we all get clear on what our mile is and then run like we’ve never run before. And, don’t look back!

dont-look-back

What gives you confidence?

As of today it had been 27 days since I had been to my Kosama gym. I am used to going every day! All of September I fought a really nasty cough and had little to no energy.

Everyone told me to stay away from working out as it would just prolong my illness.

Total bummer.

kosama-toolsI was thinking about how I have not felt like myself and my confidence was suffering.

Then I remembered a conversation I had a few years ago with another Kosama member.

We both work out every day in the 6:10 am class and we were saying how nice it is to get the workout done in the morning instead of having the guilt all day of “I should have exercised”. I then asked her if she felt better about herself after working out. Her answer was an emphatic “Yes”.

I feel the same way. I like myself better when I do what I say I’m going to do. I feel confident as I start my work day. I feel stronger when I coach my clients. My brain is more creative as I prepare for a presentation.

I plan on starting back at Kosama tomorrow. Will it be pretty? No! I will struggle but I know I’ll gain back my strength again. It will just take time.

There are many tools that go into confidence building. They may be physical tools like I use at Kosama to take care of myself. You may have other ways you create movement in your life.

There are internal tools like being grateful every day, continual learning, doing your best, etc.

What gives you confidence? One of the big ways to build confidence is by taking care of yourself.

Did that statement cause you to stop for a minute? Are you thinking “I have no time for myself?” If so, I want to give you a big hug first, but then look you straight in the eye and tell you that you must take time for yourself so you can do everything else – and in a much better frame of mind!

If you feel guilt when you think of taking care of yourself let’s stop this right now! Join me for my next teleclass “How to Beat the Guilt of Taking Care of Yourself First.

Any guilt you feel about taking time for yourself is silly!
