Just a little help might be nice

alex-climbing-wall-1Addilynn and Alexander were thrilled when their parents got them a fabulous swing set with a climbing wall! What could be better?

I know in a matter of weeks Alexander will be doing this by himself. But, for right now, he needs a little help.

Have you ever felt that way in your life or business? You could use just a little help right now? You know you’ll be ok in the future but, for right now, you need some help.

This was true for me with:

  • Giving webinars and teleclasses
  • Designing Mind Maps
  • Discovering the ins and outs of being a professional speaker
  • Marketing
  • Parenting
  • …the list could go on and on!

Where could you use help? Please don’t be afraid to ask. That’s the issue. So often we struggle along on our own only to find if we had just asked – we’d be much further than we are right now.

It’s on you

The chalkboard in the entry way at my Kosama gym has a new message every week. I love seeing what it will be.

summer-bodiesThis one made me laugh! But, it is so true. It’s really all about planning ahead.

We plan ahead for lots of things:

  • Vacations
  • Family reunions
  • Holidays
  • Work events

It’s easy to justify the time it takes to plan larger items. But, what about planning things for yourself? For just you?

Is the time it takes to plan and then actually do a little bit harder to justify?

Well, enough of that, I say!

When I talk about self-care sanity in my presentations. I ask the audience to write down one thing they will do for themselves in the next 3 days. Most of the audience looks at me with the ‘deer in headlight’ type of stare. Only a few in each audience write something down with ease. It is a foreign concept to so many to plan something for themselves. If this is you, let’s change it, shall we?self-care-calendar

Self-Care Sanity: Idea #31 – The Gift of Love

31-dadWhen I grew up the words “I love you” were seldom heard.

It wasn’t that I wasn’t loved but I believe with my parent’s generation these words were not said easily.

With my children I made sure it was the exact opposite. I told them all the time they were loved.

To this day, even though they are adults, we don’t end a phone conversation without saying “I love you.”

I am so happy to say that toward the end of my dad’s life he had no trouble sharing his love for me. We had some priceless times together when he was in hospice.

Today I ask you to reach out to as many people as you can and let them know how much your love them. This is quite easy to say to some people – but what about the harder ones? Is today the day?

Self-Care Sanity: Idea #30 – The Gift of Holding Hands

30-handsSometimes the best way to practice self-care is the simplest.

Reach out today and hold someone’s hand.

Yes, it’s that simple.

The most precious hand for me to hold is the hand of my 91-year old mother. Recently she had a very bad fall and has been in the hospital and every day I hold her hand.

We are blessed to still have her with us.

Whose hand will you hold today?

Self-Care Sanity: Idea #29 – The Gift of a New Look

29-makeupHow do you feel about your makeup lately? Perhaps a bit drab?

Maybe it’s time to hop over to your favorite makeup counter for a new look.

It’s amazing what they can do with just a few new products that give a new ‘glow’ to our face and a new outlook on life.

Or, do it yourself by going to the makeup section and choose products for a new look. This may mean you need to get out of your comfort zone a bit but that’s ok!

Self-Care Sanity: Idea #28 – The Gift of Pictures

28-screenshot of picturesWith the ease of smart phones we can take a lot of pictures we never really take time to look at and enjoy.

Now they are stored in our camera or hopefully uploaded to our computer.

Back in the old days when we actually had a camera we would drop off the film to get developed and we would at least look through them before stuffing into a box for ‘someday’!

I want you to go into your phone or computer and take some time to enjoy the memories and emotions these pictures bring to you.

Self-Care Sanity: Idea #27 – The Gift of an At-Home Movie Day

27-movie-dayAre you ready for an afternoon or evening of totally chilling out?

Some days call for this – perhaps a blizzard day, perhaps a Saturday after a really tough week, or perhaps ‘just because’.

Dig through your stacks of DVD’s and pick 3-4 movies that you loved in the past. Curl up with some snacks, a warm blanket, and prepare to chill!
